Delivering community advice

Community Advice and Support Services operate within courts to help identify and tackle the underlying problems that contribute to people’s offending. You can read more about these services here.

We worked with magistrates and court staff from North London Local Justice Area to introduce a Community Advice service at Highbury Corner’ Magistrates Court. The service opened in January 2015 and in its first three years has helped 1,800 people by:

  • Helping them find out about and access long-term support services such as alcohol treatment, community mental health services or supported housing;
  • Providing immediate help with practical issues such as benefit claims or outstanding fines, and offering emotional support.
